With a smart lock connected and assigned to a room, every guest gets their own door code (also called a PIN). You don't type anything: TIOO makes it, puts it on the lock and shows it to the guest at the right time.
Smart locks are on the Starter plan and up. The Smart Locks page is for owners and admins.
When the code is made
TIOO makes the code before the guest arrives — by default 48 hours before check-in. It works for bookings from booking sites, your website and ones you add by hand.
To change this, open Smart Locks → Settings and, under Door codes, set Create the code this many hours before check-in (1 to 168 hours), then click Save. Untick Create a door code for every guest automatically if you'd rather make codes yourself.
When the guest can see it
The guest finds their code in their guest app (the page they get after online check-in). It only appears from check-in time on the day they arrive. Before that, the guest app shows when it will be ready. TIOO never puts the code in an email or text before check-in time.
If you give the guest an early check-in time on their booking, the code shows from that time.
Which doors it opens
- Room lock only: the code opens the room.
- Front door and room lock: the same code opens both. The booking page says "Same PIN opens the front door and the room."
- Front door only (the room has a key safe, lock box or similar): the code opens the front door.
Guests can also open the door with a button in their guest app — this needs a TTLock gateway next to the lock.
Where you see the code
- On the booking: open it from Reservations. The Door PIN shows under Access, with a copy button. If it says "No door PIN yet", see below.
- On Smart Locks, under Door codes: Staying now, Next 7 days, No code yet and Ended (the last 7 days).
Making a new code
- On Smart Locks, click New code next to the guest. The old code stops working. If the guest is staying now, TIOO sends them the new one.
- Or open the booking, click Change PIN next to the Door PIN, then Save Changes.
- A booking under No code yet has a Create code button.
Revoke removes the code from the lock, and TIOO doesn't make it again unless you create a new one.
When you move a booking to another room, TIOO makes the code for the new room's lock.
Codes that begin with two extra digits
Some keypads sleep to save power and miss the first keys pressed. If yours do, go to Settings → Guest portal & online check-in → Smart Lock and tick Enable wakeup prefix for smart lock PINs. Guests then see 2 extra digits in front of the code: the first 2 wake the keypad, the rest open the door. The same tab sets Preferred PIN length. Changes only apply to codes made after you save.
After check-out
The code stops working at check-out time on the last day. If you give a late check-out on the booking, TIOO makes the code last until the new time; the guest may get a new code, which TIOO sends them.
