Heating & cooling connects your Tado thermostats to your bookings. A room is warm (or cool) when the guest walks in, and the heating goes down as soon as nobody is there.
It works with Tado V3+, Tado X and Tado Smart AC Control. It is on the Growth plan and up.
Connect Tado
Owner or admin only.
- Open Heating & cooling and click Connect Tado. A small Tado window opens, and TIOO shows a short code.
- Sign in to Tado in that window and approve the code. If the window didn't open, click Open Tado and approve. The code works for 5 minutes; after that, click Get a new code.
- Come back to TIOO. The page carries on by itself once you have approved, and your zones appear.
Link each zone to its rooms
A zone is what Tado controls: a room with a thermostat, or a group of radiators and sensors. On Rooms & zones, tick the rooms each zone heats or cools, then click Save rooms.
- One zone can serve several rooms — for example a hallway thermostat for two bedrooms.
- One room can be in two zones — for example radiators and an air-conditioning unit.
- A zone warms up when any of its rooms has a guest coming, and saves energy only when all of them are empty.
How the warm-up time is worked out
TIOO uses the guest's arrival time from online check-in. If they didn't give one, it uses the room's check-in time (an early check-in counts).
At the top of Rules, Getting rooms ready for arriving guests sets two times for every zone:
- Start before arrival — how long before the arrival time the zone starts warming (1 hour to start with). Radiators usually need 45–90 minutes; air-conditioning about 15.
- Keep on after arrival — how long it stays on after the arrival time, for guests who come late (3 hours to start with). It stops sooner once the guest is in: their door opened, or you marked them arrived.
Pick a time from the list, or Other… and type any number of minutes. The example under the two boxes shows what your times mean for a guest due at 15:00.
A zone that needs different times (a big cold room, an air-conditioned room) can have its own: change Start before arrival or Keep on after arrival in that zone from Same as above to a time.
After that, what happens while the guest is staying follows While the guest is staying:
- Tado's schedule (default) — the guest can change the temperature on the thermostat.
- Keep comfort temperature — TIOO holds the comfort temperature until check-out.
When every room is empty
After check-out (and for cancelled or no-show bookings) the zone does what you pick in When every room is empty: Tado's schedule, frost protection (off), or a saving temperature such as 16°. Air-conditioning is simply switched off.
Change a temperature by hand
On the overview, click Adjust on a zone (on phones, swipe between zones and tap Adjust). Pick a temperature with − and +, choose for how long, and click Set temperature. Boost 1 h heats (or cools) hard for an hour. Back to schedule hands the zone back to Tado and to the automatic rules.
While a change by hand is running, the automatic rules leave that zone alone.
Note: Tado allows about 100 requests a day on a normal account. TIOO reads every room in one request and only sends a change when something needs to change. The Activity page shows how many are left today.
Let guests change the temperature
This is off until you switch it on. On Rules, turn on Let guests change it, pick the lowest and highest temperature a guest may choose (18–24° is a good range) and tick the zones guests may change.
Guests then see a Room temperature card in their guest portal — only during their stay, only for the zones of their own room, and never while their access is paused. A zone that also heats a room another guest is staying in shows "Controlled by the property". A guest's change lasts 1, 2 or 4 hours (never past check-out); then the automatic rules take over again. Back to normal hands it back at once.
Each guest can make up to 10 changes an hour, and changes stop when Tado's daily allowance runs low, so the automatic rules always keep enough. Every change shows on Activity with the guest's first name.
Turn it off
Switch off Automatic rules on the overview to stop TIOO changing any temperature. To stop for one zone, untick Automatic for it on Rules. Disconnect on Connection keeps your zones, rooms and rules for when you connect again.
